e street alley murals: phase ii

The Enterprise District, Inc. (a local 501c3 non-profit) is excited to announce that E Street Alley: Phase II ("Downtown Beautification") is coming this Summer, thanks to a $5,000 Love Your Block Grant from the City of San Bernardino, Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation, and its community partners. This funding will help us purchase paint and materials for new murals and clean-up efforts, bringing more beauty to Downtown San Bernardino.

We encourage artists to design interactive murals that creatively promote revitalization, uniquely portray San Bernardino’s rich history and culture, and inspire the next generation.

  • E Street Alley Murals is a dynamic art initiative spearheaded by The Historic Enterprise Building team in downtown San Bernardino.

Through Phase 1, a blighted alley was transformed into a colorful breezeway featuring six large murals, voluntarily painted by local artists and chosen by over 1,300 San Bernardino residents.

We are now looking ahead to Phase 2, which aims to bring even more interactive "selfie" murals and new decorative lighting to the alley.

This project highlights a strong partnership between local artists and businesses, continually enhancing our community, inspiring creativity, and boosting local tourism.

  • "Selfie murals," also known as interactive murals, are works of public art specifically designed for people to pose with and take photographs, especially selfies.

They often incorporate elements that allow the viewer to become part of the artwork, such as painted wings, props like balloons or megaphones, or scenes where people can interact with characters or objects.

The goal is to create a fun, shareable experience and a memorable photo opportunity.

  • What Is Love Your Block?

Love Your Block is a transformative grant program that empowers residents to lead neighborhood revitalization projects in their cities.

It provides mini-grants and resources for community-driven initiatives, from creating public art and transforming vacant vacant lots to enhancing shared public spaces.

The program's core goal is to foster collaboration, reduce blight, improve safety, and strengthen community pride. In San Bernardino, Love Your Block helps us build a more vibrant, beautiful, and connected city, one block at a time.

  • Your voice is crucial in shaping the E Street Alley murals! Building on the success of Phase 1, where over 1,300 San Bernardino residents voted on the initial murals, we continue to prioritize community input. For upcoming opportunities, everyone who lives and works in San Bernardino is eligible to vote on which murals will be painted. We encourage you to help decide on the exciting new artworks that will enhance our community.

  • We are calling for talented individuals to contribute to the vibrant E Street Alley Murals!

Artists from San Bernardino, CA are eligible and encouraged to submit their art for consideration in upcoming mural phases.

This initiative provides a fantastic opportunity for local artists to showcase their creativity and make a lasting impact on our community.

E Street Alley Murals

Public Art Program:

Launched in 2021 by The Enterprise Building Team and spearheaded by Ryan Stanly, E Street Alley Murals transformed a formerly blighted area into a vibrant, designated cultural facility in downtown San Bernardino. This initial phase saw the installation of six large-scale murals, voluntarily painted by talented local artists, a selection process that involved over 1,300 community votes, and small-business sponsors. Visitors can now discover powerful artwork by Alfredo Perez Salmeron, Darren Villegas, Pablo Azar & Ana Grajales, Paula N. This is an amazing building from the 1920s. It is one of the very few buildings of its kind in San Bernardino California. The lobby of this building is very beautiful and the people who run the reception are absolutely wonderful and friendly. More people need to support the downtown area and keep the businesses in the area going like those in the Enterprise Building. This is the oldest building of its kind in San Bernardino. There is a banquet and reception hall that can be rented out for your business and entertainment needs. They have office space available in this incredible building for lease. The Stanly family who owns this beautiful building are also champions for downtown San Bernardino. The people of San Bernardino need to follow the lead of those involved with the Enterprise Building and help bring the downtown area back to its former glory. I would tell more of the building's history but finding out by visiting is absolutely more fun and interesting.

  • Very clean and very well kept. You can tell the Enterprise building is under great ownership and management.

  • Very historic place. It was a man with a family who had a vision for that building 100+ years ago and it was great being able to meet inside with family. I lived in San Bernardino county my whole life and I never knew this building was here. It was beautiful inside and out.

  • Ideal place for special events. Owners are maintaining the original 1927 atmosphere 👍🏼👍🏼. Lots of parking spaces, many small businesses are in this building and many more. Right next to another historical building-The Harris Company building.

  • This place is a hidden gem. It is right down the street from the court. A very clean bar with a great variety of liquors. When we walked in, we were created by the owner who is extremely accommodating. There is nothing else like this in the area. I highly recommend.

    Samantha H.

  • Cool historical building and great for events!! There's even a bar inside.

  • I've been to numerous events at the hall and have enjoyed myself every time! The staff has always been available and the hall was run in a very professional manner. I grew up in SB and it's really nice to see that efforts are being made to bring down town SB back.

  • This is the only place that I know of where you lease next to other small businesses and form an actual community. If I need any service done it’s usually only a few steps away in the next office space. Think of a mall in a building but instead of just stores, you get business owners with smiles.

    Wade A.

  • Awesome building to entertain, work, and just enjoy it’s historical location.
